1. You had to believe things were rocking at Royal Portrush on Sunday night. When Graeme McDowell won the Celtic Manor Wales Open two weeks ago, he tossed a party. Think there will be another one when he flies back?
2. In case you didn’t notice, McDowell has more than a little of countryman David Feherty in him. And it’s not just the brogue. The newly minted U.S. Open champ has that same little devilish wit about him. Check it out tonight on Vibram Five Fingers 2010 New The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He’s up just after Leno’s monologue. Too bad we won’t be hearing a Top 10 from the other coast.
3. What were the odds that Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson would wind up tied after 72 holes at Pebble and not be playing 18 more there today? That would have been worth the top Q-18
4. Corey Pavin’s consternation as to whether or not to choose Tiger Woods for the Ryder Cup is a moot point. Like there was ever a question. Tiger’s now fifth in the standings now with a bullet.
5. One less story line next spring: Davis Love III needing to play his way into the Masters. He’s in, courtesy of a T6 at the Open. Others joining him include Gregory Havret, who’ll be playing in his first Masters, and Matt Kuchar. The top 8 from the U.S. Open automatically make the Masters field.
6. Q-18 is right there with former Ryder Cup captain and major champ Paul Azinger, who tweeted: Whining about bumpy greens at Pebble Beach is like complaining about bad calls at an NBA game. it’s the way it always is and always will be.
7. Dustin Johnson had a reputation as flatliner. Nothing bothered him; nothing got his pulse racing. Until Sunday. Johnson tied the worst stretch of his professional career with a triple bogey-double bogey-bogey run from the second through fourth holes (the first was 2009 British Open, first round, eighth through 10th holes) closed with an 82 and didn’t stop to talk to anyone. Can you say serious pulse? As in chili running hot? Ernie Els passed go and didn’t stop either.
8. Tiger’s Q rating dropped from first to 25th? Really? He’s a tougher sell than Anton Apollo Ono? Hard to think that number will stay there. Five Fingers Men’s KSO
9. Confirmed. Mickelson hitting right-handed is much more effective than Dustin Johnson hitting left-handed. At least at Pebble Beach.
10. The incredible shrinking par-3 got everyone’s attention. Yes, the seventh hole went 114 yards on Friday to 99 on Saturday and 92 yards on Sunday. If the Open had gone to a playoff? Think putter.
11. Steve Stricker is among those who think Tiger will be just fine without a swing coach. “He’s got the capabilities to handle it better than anybody on his own. I don’t think there’s a teacher in this world who could teach that guy what he doesn’t already know. What you need is a good set of eyes to see what he’s doing, but it looks like he’s going to do it on his own. He’s got his camera, his iPhone out. He knows the positions he wants to be in. He knows he has some problems to fix. He’s working at it.”
12. The feel good story of the week would have been Erik Compton making the cut. Everyone knows it. Even Compton. But he’d like to — at least once — be seen as a golfer first. “This is where I’m supposed to be,” he said after missing the cut. “I’m supposed to miss the cut. I’m supposed to be the guy with the three hearts, but that’s not the way I want it to be. . .
” . . . Getting here was really difficult to qualify and that’s why I’m frustrated. I just didn’t play well this week. I wish I would’ve been at least in contention to try and make the cut. I had to play the last nine holes kind of not even being in the tournament. That always puts a bad taste in your mouth. But, I think I’ve learned a lot playing this year and this Open. ” Q-18 hopes he gets to Congressional in 2011.
13. Y.E. Yang’s 49 on the back nine at Pebble was a nightmare for him. Would have been a great score for most of us. Five Fingers Men’s KSO Trek
14. Moore not a fan. Ryan Moore has won three USGA events — the 2004 U.S. Amateur and two U.S. Amateur Public Links championships — but he’s not a fan of the U.S. Open. He was vocal — as were several players — about Pebble Beach’s greens, but said he would play another U.S. Open. “Probably, just to torture myself,” he said Sunday afternoon. “I get angry, and it makes me hate golf for about two months, and then I’m OK again.”
One green he’s really not crazy about is Pebble’s 14th hole and the slick green. “”It would take not much to make that green at least halfway reasonable, and they refuse to do it,” Moore said of the USGA officials. “I think they go for a spectacle; they want some hole to draw attention and make everybody look stupid, I guess. It doesn’t reward good golf shots like Augusta (National) does, and I don’t understand why you’d have a tournament that doesn’t reward good golf shots.” Five Fingers Men’s Sprint
15. Rush Limbaugh is Hank Haney’s new project? An athlete, an entertainer and a talk show host. Who’s next? Condi Rice? Tom DeLay? A certain former president? Think how much fun a reunion show would be.

June 21st, 2010 by jiayou1224CUP: Drivers Expect ‘Crazy” Driving At Infineon
June 20th, 2010 by jiayou1224If you look at Tony Stewart’s record at Infineon Raceway and Watkins Glen International, you would think he loves racing on NASCAR’s two road courses.
Then you listen to him talk about Sunday’s race at Infineon and, well, maybe not.
Jeff Gordon should
NFL Carolina Panthers o be thrilled about returning to the track where he has five wins, but when Gordon talks about Sunday’s race, there is just a tiny bit of apprehension in his voice.
Jimmie Johnson would like nothing more right now than to get his first road-course victory on Sunday, but there are plenty of obstacles in his way – real obstacles. The moving kind.
NASCAR’s top stars and best road-course drivers are a bit leery of the Toyota/Save Mart 350 because it is expected to be one of the most physical races on the circuit, almost as rough as a short-track race with all the bumping and banging, pushing and shoving.
And then there’s the drivers who don’t know what they are doing, putting themselves in precarious positions and running off course – or into each other.
Asked Friday which of the 11 turns he is worried most about, Stewart, a two-time winner here, said: “Everywhere. Because as crazy as these guys will be driving on Sunday, you have to be good everywhere.
“If you are weak at some point, somebody is probably going to go in there and probably door-slam you or something. I was watching tapes this last week, if you get back, fourth on back, it is a no-holds-barred wrestling match.”
Johnson, a California native who has 50 Sprint Cup victories but has never won on a road course, wants desperately to win here Sunday, but knows he also must be careful. He is not willing to take any unnecessary risks, especially having fallen to sixth in the standings.
He knows, though, that he could get into trouble not of his own doing.
“The first 15 or NFL Chicago Bears 0 laps, there is a little bit of give-and-take. And then after a while, something happens and one guy screws over another guy and the energy changes,” he said. “And then everybody you come in contact with is more irritated, and by the time you get to the end of the race, it is just a cutthroat event.
“At every braking zone, guys are blocking. If someone is blocked, the guy that’s being blocked goes to the turn and says, ‘To hell with you, I can just lean on you and spin you out and all the guys outside of you,’ and off they go. So there’s an energy during the race that kicks in and I want to avoid that.
“I don’t want to get caught up in that NFL Cincinnati Bengals ecause you get red-faced and focused just on these little battles you see in front of you and around you and before you know it, you’re sitting in the dirt and tire barriers with fenders torn off the car and something’s gone wrong.”

May 20th, 2010 by jiayou1224Specter Loses Pennsylvania Senate Fight
May 19th, 2010 by jiayou1224WASHINGTON — Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, who left the Republican Party a year ago in hopes of salvaging a 30-year career, was rejected on Tuesday by Air Jordan Sale Democratic primary voters, with Representative Joe Sestak winning the party’s nomination on an anti-incumbent wave that is defining the midterm elections.
In Kentucky, Rand Paul, the most visible symbol of the Tea Party movement, easily won the Republican Senate primary and delivered a significant blow to the Republican establishment. His 24-point victory over Trey Grayson, who was supported by the most powerful Republican on Capitol Hill, Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, underscored the anti-Washington sentiment echoing across the country.
The outcomes of both contests, along with a Democratic primary in Arkansas that pushed Senator Blanche Lincoln into a runoff election in June, illustrated anew the serious threats both parties face from candidates who are able to portray themselves as Cheap Jordan Shoes outsiders and eager to shake up the system.
“I have a message, a message from the Tea Party, a message that is loud and clear and does not mince words,” Mr. Paul said in his victory speech in Bowling Green, Ky. “We have come to take our government back.”
In a bright spot for Democrats on Tuesday, the party retained the seat of the late Representative John P. Murtha in southwestern Pennsylvania.
The outcome, in a district that Senator John F. Kerry carried for the Democrats in the 2004 presidential race and Senator John McCain for the Republicans four years later, gave Democrats confidence that they can hold off Republicans in hotly contested regions, despite the difficult political climate for them and President Obama.
It was the biggest primary day so far in the midterm election year, as voters in Arkansas, Pennsylvania and Oregon selected Congressional candidates for the fall, providing fresh opportunities for Republicans and Democrats to vent their anger over the size of Basketball Shoes government, the federal budget deficit and many policies of the Obama administration.
The primary elections on Tuesday helped set the stage for a turbulent five-month campaign, with Republicans hoping to wrest control of the House and Senate from Democrats and win several governors’ races across the country.
The results were sobering for both parties, amounting to a rejection of candidates selected and backed by leaders in Washington who found themselves out of step with their electorates.
Republicans and Democrats alike are now left to learn the lessons from the frustration being expressed by voters, and to unify behind nominees who face daunting general election campaigns.
On the Democratic side, organized labor, which invested millions into the races in Pennsylvania and Arkansas, did not achieve a victory in either state. On the right, another show of Tea Party strength left the Republican party leadership scrambling to reconnect with the grassroots.
As Mr. Paul’s victory was announced Tuesday evening, a crowd of supporters gathered around the fireplace at his victory party at the Bowling Green Country Club erupted in cheers. With Air Jordan 1 99 percent of precincts reporting, Mr. Paul led Mr. Grayson by 24 percentage points.
“It’s just a tremendous mandate for the Tea Party,” Mr. Paul said. “It cannot be overstated that people want something new, they don’t want the same old, same old politicians. They think the system is broken and needs new blood.”
In November, Mr. Paul will face Jack Conway, the Kentucky attorney general, who won the Democratic nomination.
